WestEd, a non-profit education research organization, is partnering with the ASSISTments Foundation to conduct research funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.
We are investigating the impact of mathematical review strategies on student learning. The strategies involve ordering math problems (Review Assignments) in different ways to help students learn and retain math concepts.
All Review Assignments are aligned to the CCSS for (1) ratios and proportions and (2) number systems. WestEd will share study results with participating teachers and districts at the conclusion of the multi-year student to help make informed decisions about math curriculum and instruction.
We are seeking 6th and 7th grade general education math teachers to participate in this study happening during the 2025-2026 academic school year. All participating teachers will receive up to $1,250, as a thank you for their time completing study activities.
Why join this research study?
- Contribute important knowledge about math learning to the field
- WestEd will work with teachers and district leaders to share study findings in a meaningful way for districts to use to make informed decisions on mathematics curriculum and instructional practice
- Receive up to $1,250 for completing all study activities
- Receive free high quality professional learning on an evidence-based tool (ASSISTments) shown to improve math achievement
Study Information:
- Teachers will be asked to assign, review, collect, and score approximately ten “Review Assignments” during the school year. Each Assignment should take roughly 30-minutes during class time.
- All teachers will attend an online teacher training; administer study forms and assessments; complete weekly teacher logs, and potentially be asked to help facilitate classroom observations.
- Participating classrooms will need 1-to-1 device access or the ability for students to complete online, in-class activities independently.
